MP3 Players are a great way of listening to music whilst you run – making your training session more enjoyable and helping keep you motivated. We find that theres nothing better than a motivational, high beat tune to get you energised and help you pick up the pace!
With such a wide array of different MP3 models and types, you’re sure to find one that suits you – whther you’re training indoors or running outside. There are three main types of MP3 player you can choose from: hard-drive and micro hard-drive based players or flash players.
When it comes to choosing the best MP3 Players for running, Leggit recommends flash player MP3s. Music is stored on a computer chip, making the players smaller with no moving parts. They are easier and lighter to carry, have a longer battery life, and shock resistance – no moving parts means they won’t skip when exposed to high impact exercise such as running (lets face it – nothing’s worse than skipping tracks or batteries running out mid-run!). The only downside is their memory capacity tends to be slightly smaller, around 2GB (570 songs) – more than enough for athletes looking for a sturdier MP3 but not always suitable for those with large music collections.
Alternatives to flash based MP3 players include Hard drive MP3 based players which are larger and heavier, containing a large capacity hard drive inside – usually 10GB or more. Great for customers looking for an MP3 to store their whole music collection albeit not so good for joggers looking to use their MP3 during exercise as the moving parts of the hard drive will result in the MP3 player skipping; they are larger and bulkier with a shorter battery life – reliant on rechargeable batteries. Micro hard drive based MP3 players are a smaller versions of a normal hard drive based player. They are more compact with slightly less storage capacity – up to 6GB (1700 songs). Unfortunately, these still have the down side of skipping when exposed to intense physical movement – such as running.
